Pad Out Photographic Idiom

A young Thai man gets some help to pad out his bra for a beauty contest

Pad Out

My latest photographic idiom, Pad Out, is really a phrasal verb but lets not split hairs since I thought you might enjoy this photograph of a rather effeminate young Thai man getting dressed up as a lady for a tongue in cheek beauty contest at the local library in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Here in Thailand where a third gender, sometimes called a ladyboy or Kathoey/Katoey, is widely acknowledged, its not unusual to find cross dressing taking place.  The Thais also enjoy a slapstick type humour and the event was certainly funny.

Lest I forget, Pad Out, in English can be used to describe stuffing something, like the young man’s bra, but it can also mean to make something like a presentation or speak longer by adding irrelevant information.

A bit like this post on Pad Out perhaps?
