Singha Mythical Lion or Beer

A Singha Mythical Lion outside a Thai temple

Singha Mythical Lion

The Singha pronounced Sing(สิงห์) is a mythical lion found in Thai Buddhism although its origins probably lie in Hinduism/Sikhism since the name Sing is associated with lion or the strength of a lion on the Indian sub-continent.

In Thailand it is common, like in today’s photograph, to find examples of singha outside Thai temples, the singha is modelled on the Asiatic Lion rather than its African brother.

However there is also a popular beer in Thailand called Beer Singha(Sing). This is a blonde lager beer 6% proof and very refreshing when served ice cold on a hot day!

The choice is yours mythical lion or a cold lager?

Thai, and South East Asia art is so very different from the west’s.
Their representation of a lion, or any other creature, is very unusual, maybe it’s the slitty eyes……?

May your Christmas be all you wish it to be!

    Adullamite.
