The Mahachai to Ban Laem ferry connects the Thailand Railways stations of the same names. It crosses the Tha Chin River which flows through the centre of Samut Sakhon(Mahachai).
The ferry is unique in the sense that it links two parts of a little known railway in Thailand that runs from Bangkok(Wongwain) to Mahachai and then Mae Klong(Samut Songkhram). The line is usually referred to as the Mahachai-Mae Klong Railway.
On both sections of the line the railway terminates in a market.
