Bat Cave in Thailand

A bat cave in Thailand with thousands of bats

This is another photograph from my visit to Wat Tham Khao Mai Ruak. Here you may just be able to make out the interior of a bat cave I tried to explore when I was on the site. It is set on a limestone crag behind the temple.

Unfortunately I did not have a flash light with me so it was quite spooky and the only illumination was a hole high in the ceiling of the cave. The shot is taken using flash and if you enlarge it you can see the eyes of the residents shining in the light.

When I looked closer at the image it looks like there might be some rat like creatures in the centre foreground. I do know there were lots of very large cockroaches in the cave living on the bat guano since some crawled over my feet before I scurried out. You can see a few on the left hand wall.

I intend to return on another day with a flash light and at dusk when the bats head out hunting.
