Thai Buddhist Monk Receiving Alms

a Buddhist monk sits in the lotus position to receive alms in a Buddhist temple in Thailand

Each day a Thai Buddhist monk will receive alms in the form of food or other essential things. The alms are either given to the monk as he walks around the area of the temple early in the morning or by parishioners visiting the temple and presenting the gifts to the monk in a wihan or sala used for that purpose.

This photograph is taken at Wat Phrathat Phanom Woramahawihan(วัดพระธาตุพนมวรมหาวิหาร) which is a temple in the town of That Phanom near the Mekong River in eastern Thailand.
