There are lots of floating markets in Thailand. Some are really little more than tourist attractions while others like the floating market at Amphawa serve both tourists and locals who like to shop there.
While a lot of the vendors, like the food vendors in the photograph, do indeed sell their wares from boats there are also lots of fixed stalls that line the canal bank and the small streets leading from it.
The floating market food vendors you can see are selling lots of different things, the person in the centre of the frame is offering Papaya Salad, a hot spicy salad based on a green Papaya at 20 Baht(40p) a serving. While to her left another vendor is selling some sort of shell fish for 30 Baht(60p).
