Thai temple entrance showing Buddha and naga art work in thailand

Usually Thai temples have an ornate entrance. There are no gates as such in a lot of cases but some sort of decorative arch is crafted. Often the entrance is on a particular theme, perhaps that is significant in the area where the temple is built.

The art work on Thai temple entrance in the photograph shows the Buddha in a classic pose on a coiled naga whose many heads shield the deities head. Higher you can see two naga entwined. Although the naga appears like a snake(cobra) it is not a sign of evil but instead one of protection. Thus the Buddha and those entering through the temple gates are afforded protection.

This particular Thai temple entrance can be found at Wat Lang San Prasit, Samut Sakhon, Thailand.
