Kuan Yin or Guan Yin is a Chinese Buddhist deity often referred to in English as “the Goddess of Mercy or Compassion,” in Thai the name translates to Guan Im. This photograph of the goddess is taken at a Kuan Yin shrine in Tha Chalom, Samut Sakhon, Thailand.
The water flowing from the container in the right hand represents the continuing and endless flow of compassion and mercy while the plant in her left hand(rice) is a sign of fertility. In fact many young Chinese Thais who are childless will visit this and other similar shrines in Thailand hoping to get a little help with conception.
The Kuan Yin Shrine is located on the same road and quite near Wat Lang San Prasit. To reach the shrine you simply continue past this temple, cross the railway line and you will find it located near Tha Chalom station on the left.
