Thai demon face mask Khon Mask

A Thai demon face mask is used in traditional dance and storytelling of the Ramakian. The mask is referred to in Thai as a Khon mask. There are over 100 different demon characters and each mask representing a particular character is different, including colours, shape of the mouth and teeth.

The masks are made of painted paper mache the is formed using rice paper around a clay model of the character.

This Thai demon mask was photographed in a museum at Wat Phummarin Kudi Thong in Samut Songkhram Thailand.
