Thai demon giant guardians are characters from the Ramakian, which is a Thai national epic tale that is adapted from the classic Hindu Ramayana.
Although in the Western world we often associate demons with bad things, here the demon giant is a force for good and will often be found outside temples and other religious sites where they act as guardians, protecting the place. There are several different versions of the demon, each with its own name and different colours and facial characteristics. See also Thai Demon face masks.
You can find some excellent examples of Giant Demons at the Grand Palace in Bangkok and there are twelve demons at Suvarnabhumi airport(BKK). The demon giant guardian in this photograph is outside a temple gates on the road to Huay Yang Waterfall National Park.
