Rambutan fruit is a tropical fruit found in Thailand. The Rambutan tree(Nephelium lappaceum) is native to most of SE Asia. The red and green hairy fruit when peeled reveals a white/creamy centre that is related to the Lychee. The flesh contains a fairly large seed which along with the skin is also edible.
Rambutan fruit contains vitamin C and the skin and seed are used in tropical medicine to cure such things as fever and diarrhoea. Raw Rambutan seeds are said to reduce body fat!
Personally I love Rambutan fruit and they have just started coming in season here in Thailand.
