Prayer and Offerings at the Wat

Praying and making merit in a Buddhist temple in Thailand

When a Thai Buddhist visits a temple or Wat they usually like to pray and make offerings in front of various shrines and Buddhist icons that you find in temples in Thailand. The process might involve leaving flowers(lotus), lighting candles and incense sticks or sticking small pieces of gold leaf on Buddha statues to make merit.

In some temples birds and turtles can be purchased to release as another form of making merit.

In today’s photograph you can see the faithful at Wat Chalong in Phuket making merit and praying in front of various Buddhist icons.
