Luang Phor Thuad ( Luang Phor Thuat-หลวงปู่ทวด) was a revered Thai Buddhist monk who was born in Southern Thailand. He is attributed with several “miracles” one of which included turning sea water into drinking water. Later in his life he helped construct a temple called Wat Chan Hai, in the south of Thailand and later became the Abbott there.
Thai amulets, similar to this one, bearing the image of Luang Phor Thuad are very sought after and one known as the M16 amulet is especially valuable. The M16 amulet gets its name due to the belief that it protected a wearer from harm when his truck was ambushed by bandits firing M16 rifles at the cab were he sat.
Luang Phor Thuad is said to have died at the age of 120 years in Malaysia after which his body was returned to Wat Chang Hai.
The largest replica statue of Luang Phor Thuad is located at Wat Huay Mongkol which is to the West of Hua Hin Thailand. Todays photograph is taken in a wihan at the temple showing a statue of the monk to the right of an unusual brown Buddha image.
