Kuti Thai Buddhist monks homes within a Thai Temple Wat

You may have wondered where Thai Buddhist monks actually live. Well within all Thai temple(Wat) grounds you will find some buildings set aside for the monks to live, pray, eat and cook in. The buildings they live in are called Kuti.

Kuti come in different shapes and sizes but often they are single units like the three you can see on the right side of today’s photograph. The building to the left includes a kitchen. By the way the large chimney in the background is for the crematorium that is located behind the monks quarters.

The photograph is taken at Wat Huai Luk in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The building never looks like a temple. The monks in China always stay in a Shao Lin Temple that never look so modern.

Rainfield here the living quarters are always seperated from the sacred temple buildings.
