Several small squid in Thailand

Squid are marine cephalopods that have eight arms and two longer tentacles. Most squid also have an ink sac that they can use to colour water when threatened. They are also a very popular seafood here in Thailand.

All manner of Thai dishes are cooked using squid, my favourite way of eating them is by frying and then combining them with a tasty, slightly spicy sauce and steamed vegetables. You will also racks of squid laid out in the sun. This sun dried fish is then stored and used in soups or as a starter to a meal.

Today’s photograph shows a plate of small squid a fisherman neighbour gave us the other day. Very tasty they were too.

Curry with squid is also not a bad idea.

Mike I've never tried squid as I'm usually very wary about eating seafood after being told by my doctor years ago to avoid it when abroad. The advice stuck for about 20 years. Last trip to Thailand I tried some king prawns and couldn't believe what I'd been missing all those years. I also ate some crab and I just might try squid next time.

I now wonder if his advice about giving up smoking is based on any true facts.

Rainfield, a nice mild Malaysian green curry I fancy.

Martyn squid when cooked well is very tasty although you may not like the texture, not at all fishy. Ditto the smoking!
