If you have ever visited a Thai temple(Wat) then somewhere hidden amongst the art work on view you will find at least one representation of the Dhrama Wheel or Wheel of Law(Dharmacakra,) which relates to the teaching of the Buddha.
The wheel usually has eight spokes representing the eightfold noble path to enlightenment or put another way the ethical conduct one should follow as a Buddhist (hence wheel of law). It also represents the continuing cycle of life and death. Occasionally I have seen a sixteen spoke wheel. Indeed on today’s photographic example there are eight spokes but sixteen points marked on the rim. Also you can see two deer, one each side of the wheel, which I believe signifies a place of learning, which of course could refer to a Thai Wat as a place where one can learn of the Buddha’s teaching.
This photograph was take at Wat Dan Singkhon and is above the entrance gate.
