City Pillar Prachuap Khiri Khan

The town of Prachuap Khiri Khan is noted for its quite seaside resort appeal and there are not too many tourist attractions in the town, however the City Pillar Shrine is one and certainly worth a visit. It is located at the northern end of the town near Khao Chong Krajok.

The design of the city pillar is quite interesting and is built to the Khmer style, it is said to be the most beautiful such shrine in Thailand. A possible explanation to the choice of style is offered on Changwat, Amphoe Tambon.

Besides the main shrine there are several good examples of Thai art and architecture. The doors of the shrine have a colourful example of a Thai giant/demon and there are several beautifully crafted naga.

Mike, Stunning photo and absolutely beautiful shrine. There is just something about old Thai architecture that is perfect in so many ways.
