The final bay in my mini series of local seaside photographs is the bay at Ao Manao. Arguable the most beautiful of the three bays that make up the area around Prachuap Khiri Khan town, Ao Manao is about 5km from the town centre to the south. It is not used by the local fishing industry like Ao Noi bay and Ao Prachuap bay.
The area around the bay is actually occupied by the Royal Thai Air Force, Wing 53, and entry is restricted, although this just amounts to foreigners needing to sign in at the friendly guardroom.
Besides the beautiful crescent shaped bay and beach the air force base also has a WWII museum and war memorial, which are open to the public, as well as an elusive troop of Spectacled Langurs. Ao Manao is extremely popular with locals and tourists so it can be extremely busy at weekends and Thai holidays. If you get peckish while visiting there is an excellent food centre offering cheap and substantial meals.
