The Hong is a mythical bird associated with Thai Buddhism. Somewhat like a swan the birds name in Thai is used to denote grace and beauty.
I first photographed the Hong in today’s photograph back in March 2009 on a visit to Ban Krud, but was unsure of the birds name, I did however realised it was related to Thai Buddhism since the example shown forms the gate to a temple that is under construction.
