Cycle Rickshaw Samlor Photo Image

Cycle rickshaw samlor Thailand

The cycle rickshaw, Samlor in Thai, is still widely used as a means of transport in Thailand. Samlor means three wheels but confusingly it also the name given to the person pedalling the rickshaw.

The Samlor in this photograph is being pedalled by an English guy I met on holiday in Thailand a few years ago. The plan was that our group would make our way to the station in Kanchanaburi by samlor, unfortunately the real driver of the rickshaw was well drunk and not making much progress so my friend took over and made his way with the drunken driver happily waving to passers by.

    What a good experience.

We still have a few trishaws at Penang, mainly serve to attract tourists.

I would also ask, "Who paid the fare?" Now knowing the answer looks like he got a good bit of fun and fitness for the fare!

Rainfield and Martin-its a bit of a touristy thing but my friend still paid and everyone had a good laugh.

Too funny Mike and an excellent image capture. I like the Cocktail bar sign in the background..that seems to go with the story.
