Thai cross stitch is a very popular hobby in Thailand. My partner Duen spends hours completing the intricate designs which she purchases in a kit form that contains the cloth and all the relevant coloured threads along with a colour coded pattern.
The patterns include many traditional Thai scenes as well as birds, animals and flowers.
You can buy Thai cross stitch kits in most haberdashery shops in Thailand and several companies offer mail order services to customers outside Thailand. Just search Thai cross stitch on Google. Prices for kits range from about 300 Baht right up to several thousand Baht for more intricate designs.
The cross stitch owl in today’s photograph took about a month to complete.
