Chestnut-Capped Babbler perched in bush

The Chestnut-Capped Babbler(Timalia pileata) is found throughout central and Northern Thailand. The bird is quite small and not easy to photograph. It has a bright chestnut cap, black beak and black eye mask.

This photograph was taken as the sun was setting and does not clearly show the true colours of the birds main facial features that make recognition relatively easy. When viewed from a slightly different angle, after the bird moved, the chestnut cap was clearly visible which in this (possible juvenile) specimen looked like a broad chestnut stripe from the front to back of the head.

An appropriate winter chestnut names bird for this season. I imagine this is quite a shy bird.

He does look like a small bird. His little body is almost round. I like his little pointed head. Have a Merry Christmas.
