Thai spirit houses come in all shapes and sizes. They are found all over Thailand in gardens, business premises in fact almost anywhere. The Thai people are in the main Buddhist and also deeply superstitious.
Spirit houses provide a home for the spirits that Thai people believe live on the land. By providing a home it is also believed that the spirits will not invade a persons home and cause bad luck.
I found this new spirit house yesterday when I was out cycling. At first I was unsure why it was there however when I thought about it there would seem two possible reasons.
The first is because just across the beach road there is a new housing development starting (4.5 Million Baht for an ocean view) and the land has been disturbed thus waking the spirits of the land.
The second possible reason is that the location of the house is on the extremes of the village of Khlong Wan and similar locations are often used to keep the spirits out of a village.
