The rather nondescript plumage of this bird at rest changes when the bird is in flight since it has striking white wings and tail feathers. The bird is quite noisy if disturbed emitting a loud squawk
The Chinese Pond Heron is normally found in freshwater wetlands, mangroves and swamps up to 800m elevation. in alarm.

Oh Gosh! That is one handsome bird! Looks most like our green heron. Wow! You can understand how the orientals made such beautiful depictions of birds with these lovely models.
