Coppersmith Barbet – Birds of Thailand

Coppersmith Barbet Thailand

The Coppersmith Barbet(Megalaima haemacephala) is common throughout Thailand. It gets its name from the noise it makes, which is said to sound like a coppersmith beating metal. The bird makes the sound without opening its beak. This one was surprisingly tolerant of me as I was only standing a few feet away albeit on the road and he was on the electricity lines!

If these beautiful little birds are common in Thailand, bit must be an amazingly colorful place. I'd love to see one of these little guys in person!
