Cock Fighting Thailand

This rather handsome cockerel is shown here in the field behind my home in Thailand. Sadly this bird along with several others owned by a neighbour are used for illegal cock fighting.

This rather barbaric pastime is quite common in the area I live with the birds being specially bred for the purpose. During the fight metal spurs are attached to the birds feet.

I have lived in Thailand since I retired from teaching in the UK in January 2008. Home is a bungalow about 2km from the Gulf of Thailand and 8km south of the town of Prachuap Khiri Khan. I am one of the few foreigners that live in this area. I am a keen birder and photographer although I have a lot to learn about both subjects! I also enjoy blogging and visiting temples and other cultural and wildlife sites in the country. I am trying to learn the Thai language, but I think you could say that it remains a work in progress.
