Usually in Thailand a dowry is paid when a couple marry this is called “sin sod” in Thai. At a wedding I recently attended the sin sod consisted of several pieces of gold jewellery and several thousand Baht. I reckon there was about 100,000 Baht (£2000) on the plate!
