I have noticed that my water lilies here in Thailand open an close depending how much sun they are getting. In this shot taken in full sunlight the lily is wide open, only to slowly close as the sun moves towards the West each day.
Perhaps its to do with pollination by bees and insects when the sun is shining brightly and they are active.
