Orient Express Observation Car Thailand

A few weeks ago I wrote an article on the Eastern Orient Express which often passes by my home in Nong Hin, Thailand.

This shot is of the rear observation car where the guests can sit and watch the Thai countryside going by while sipping their favourite drinks.

The train runs from Bangkok to Singapore with stops at Butterworth (for Penang) and Kuala Lumpur. A truly luxury trip.

I often thought about taking this trip, even just for the Thai section but could never actually justify the cost. It’s more the romance of the idea than anything else I suppose.

The Orient Express is a legend to me. Seeing that train is like seeing a fantasy becoming a reality. I see them talk about it on TV and in movies, and it doesn’t seem real. This opens up the world a little more for me.

The train gives me a sense about India somehow. The moonson hits the face through train window…

I think the train trip is one of those trips of a lifetime. Things we dream of but never get round to doing. Funnily enough it reminds me of train travel in India too although we are still awaiting the arrival of the monsoon here.
