Red Heliconia Thailand.

a red coloured flower spike on a Heliconia in Thailand

I have been growing this plant, a variety of Heliconia, in my tropical garden in Thailand for about a year. During that time it has not flowered, however it started to form buds a few weeks ago and finally the flowers are opening. Certainly worth the wait!

There are a fantastic array of flowers that you have have grown. I suppose there is never a need to buy any there now.

Martin cut flowers are still a big business here particularly orchids for export, but you are right we have plenty in the garden.

I tend to leave them outside, since they don’t last long when cut, plus they are usually covered in ants!
